Games That Scroll Mind Meltdown

Looks like it’s time for another batch of reviews of some random Android games.

First of all, I can’t believe I’m even mentioning it again but I figured out how to play that weird (and very popular for some reason) Happy Fall that I wrote about last month. It’s a platform game and you have to tilt your Android device to navigate that idiotic gumdrop around, collecting crap and points along the way. Awesome.

Do you know how many Happy Fall style games there are? No? Well there are a lot of them and I don’t care enough to talk about them. Yet, here I go.

*cries tears of shame*

happy poo jumpAnyway, it turns out that Happy Fall was created by the team over at Retro Dreamer and not Noodlecake Studios as I falsely reported. But Noodlecake distributes some of Retro Dreamer’s games which makes things confusing on some level, but not so confusing that you won’t be able to find Happy Fall if you’re looking for it. Of course, if you were looking for Happy Fall, you probably also found Happy Jump (the screen scrolls up instead of down) and then numerous variations on the same theme, which just means the same game re-skinned and re-themed. i.e., Ice Cream Jump, Ice Cream Drop, Happy Poo Fall and Happy Poo Jump where instead of being a gumdrop, you’re a disgusting smiling turd that leaves brown stains everywhere. I shit you not. PUN INTENDED. There’s even a Happy Poo’s Revenge so I ask, where does it stop?

Well, it doesn’t, which is whey we must move on and since we’re on the topic of vertical scrollers/platform games, I should probably mention Doodle Jump since it’s basically the Angry Birds of platformers.

doodle jump characterDoodle Jump by Lima Sky LLC has the exact same game play as the madness I mentioned above. Actually Doodle Jump came first and was one of the most popular iOS games ever. In fact, it came out 3 years ago which proves once again that we are always on the cutting edge here at BFO Corporation Industries Studios. So yes, the game play is one thing, but Doodle Jump is also so visually appealing that it’s hard to resist. The playing field is white lined paper, the kind of paper that you might doodle on. The characters are awesome little doodles as well, keeping the theme fresh and light as opposed to the overly colourful punch-you-in-the-face style of those other Drop and Fall games.

And finally there’s Vector by Nekki.Vector is a side scrolling parkour style chase game. You’re being chased, you run. You jump. You collect skills along the way. The artwork is slick and has a film noir / 1984 feel to it. Reminds me a lot of Syndicate, but in a 2D kind of way.

And that’s pretty much all I have to say about any of this, which is already way more than I or anyone expected me to.
